There was an unofficial measurement of 19.00 inches at Aurora, N.C., which would sit at the top of this rainfall list if confirmed.

Fort Macon, N.C., 92 mph
Hatteras, N.C., 88 mph
Conimicut, R.I., 83 mph
Barrington, R.I., 82 mph
Buxton, N.C., 79 mph
Cape Lookout, N.C., 78 mph
Oregon Inlet, N.C., 78 mph
Cobb Island, Md., 73 mph
Chesapeake Beach, Md., 72 mph
In New Jersey the highest rainfall in: Jefferson Township, 9.66 inches;Newark, 8.92 inches; and Caldwell, 8.65 inches. The strongest wind gusts measured were in: Tuckerton, 69 mph; Ocean City, 66 mph; and Brick Township, 66 mph.

[...] I recently checked the #citizenscience tag on Twitter, to get a flavour of global activity of this kind. One of the most interesting projects was Safecast, which has been tracking radiation levels in Japan since the Fukushima disaster. This began as an informal citizen science project, but has since been formalised into a more rigorous data gathering exercise.
